Racing Incident Report

FLYING SPRINTER began awkwardly, causing B Doyle, its rider, to become unbalanced. On jumping, ROCKET POWER was bumped by FAVOURITE SUPREME which shifted out. From a wide barrier, OCEAN TRANQUIL was taken back in the early stages. In the early stages, CONFUCIUS CLASSIC, which had been taken back, proved very difficult to settle. At the 1000 Metres, ROCKET POWER was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FLY HIGH. At the 800 Metres, ROCKET POWER was checked to avoid the heels of FLY HIGH which became unbalanced after bumping with CENTURY SUPER STAR. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, GOOD GAINS and KING PRAWN SUPREME raced tight. At the 200 Metres, B Doyle dropped his whip. O Doleuze (LUCKY QUALITY) explained his mount was the last horse to enter the barriers. He said LUCKY QUALITY was standing satisfactorily, however, as the start was effected turned its head to the right, then on jumping bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground. He said after this he shifted LUCKY QUALITY to the outside of the field rather than ride the horse along and allow it to show its natural speed to travel forward and cross to race on the fence in the lead at the 800 Metres. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY QUALITY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. C K Tong (OCEAN TRANQUIL) said when he commenced to ride his mount out on straightening, his left foot slipped from the stirrup. He said he continued riding OCEAN TRANQUIL out hands and heels while making some effort to endeavour to regain the use of his stirrup. He said at the 150 Metres he became unbalanced on OCEAN TRANQUIL and as such was not able to continue riding the horse out to the end of the race. C K Tong was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort than he did on this occasion to regain the use of his stirrup. Y T Cheng (FAVOURITE SUPREME) said from a favourable barrier he was able to obtain a midfield position which is further forward than the horse usually races. He said he did not make use of FAVOURITE SUPREME to obtain this position. He said FAVOURITE SUPREME travelled satisfactorily in the run, however, in the Straight did not respond to his riding. He said the track work of FAVOURITE SUPREME leading into today’s race was in his opinion only fair. FAVOURITE SUPREME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FAVOURITE SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. BROTHERS IN ARMS and LUCKY QUALITY were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on ROCKET POWER at the request of Trainer A S Cruz. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ROCKET POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
