Racing Incident Report
After arriving in the saddling stalls, MAXIMUM CHARM had its right hind plate reset. MAXIMUM CHARM was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. FASTER FASTER was slow to begin. DOUBLE FANTASY was slow into stride. ABLE STANDARD began awkwardly, causing G Mosse to lose the use of his right stirrup. G Mosse regained the stirrup approaching the 1100 Metres. After this, ABLE STANDARD travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, MASTER YING was steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND FLYER. FASTER FASTER, which was following, was steadied in consequence. In the middle stages, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS hung out. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DIAMOND FLYER, Trainer A Lee said the horse was having its first race start since early November 2008. He said he had rested DIAMOND FLYER as the horse has a history of problems with its front fetlocks. He said he had instructed M Du Plessis not to "waste" barrier 1 in today's race and it was anticipated DIAMOND FLYER would obtain a position around midfield. He said DIAMOND FLYER, which had had only one previous run on the All Weather surface in which it was unplaced, was not fancied by the stable today. He said he was surprised DIAMOND FLYER was able to race in a leading position over 1200 Metres when the horse is generally recognised to be better suited when racing over further. He said in his opinion the horse travelling in a forward position and its improved performance were due to the horse being freshened up. M Du Plessis confirmed the riding instructions issued to him and said he also anticipated travelling in a position around midfield. He said DIAMOND FLYER began well, he then rode his mount along to take advantage of its good start from the inside barrier and as a consequence DIAMOND FLYER travelled further forward than anticipated. He said near the 1000 Metres he steadied DIAMOND FLYER, the horse travelled comfortably and was able to maintain a leading position. He said he believed DIAMOND FLYER travelled further forward than was anticipated due to it being freshened up. Mr Lee was told his explanation would be reported. DAYLIGHT EXPRESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of after the race did not show any significant findings. DOUBLE FANTASY, DIAMOND FLYER and BLUE SAINT were sent for sampling.
