Racing Incident Report
While parading behind the barriers, KILDARE was kicked by another runner. KILDARE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. SUNNY POWER and KILDARE were slow to begin. On jumping, EXPRESS WIN was taken back. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SUNNY POWER and SACRED KINGDOM were steadied when crowded for room inside MEDIC POWER (Z Purton) which when proving difficult to settle got its head up, raced ungenerously and shifted in. Z Purton was advised to ensure he does his utmost to protect his fellow riders. In the early and middle stages, KILDARE, which was racing without cover, proved difficult to settle, then in the Straight hung in. At the 500 Metres, SUNNY POWER was checked away from the heels of DIM SUM. From on straightening until the 300 Metres, MEDIC POWER was held up and unable to improve. For a considerable distance after straightening, SUNNY POWER was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 350 Metres, SACRED KINGDOM was momentarily crowded for room inside INSPIRATION which shifted in slightly. J Winks (DIM SUM) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 300 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of TUSCAN SPIRIT which was giving ground, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. J Winks was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 14 May 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 6 May 2009. TUSCAN SPIRIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, TUSCAN SPIRIT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, TUSCAN SPIRIT will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SACRED KINGDOM and REGENCY DRAGON were sent for sampling.
