Racing Incident Report

COUNTRY MAGIC shifted in at the start and bumped MY TIME. NUGGET WARRIOR was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, BEAUTY EXPRESS was crowded for room between ESPERANZA which shifted out and CHATER POWER. After being bumped by BEAUTY EXPRESS, CHATER POWER then shifted out, resulting in TRULLI being steadied away from the heels of that horse. Rounding the Home Turn, TRULLI was steadied when crowded for room between NUGGET WARRIOR and FINGERS CROSSED which shifted out. At the entrance to the Straight, FINGERS CROSSED was steadied away from the heels of COUNTRY MAGIC. Near the 250 Metres, BEAUTY EXPRESS had some difficulty obtaining clear running between NUGGET WARRIOR and SEASON LINKZ. Passing the 150 Metres, FINGERS CROSSED was awkwardly placed when crowded for room between BEAUTIFUL DREAMER and SUPER CHARGE, both of which shifted ground. Just prior to the winning post, MY TIME jumped a shadow on the track and became unbalanced. When questioned, Apprentice M L Yeung (SUPER CHARGE) stated that he made considerable use of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said after entering the Back Straight his mount was three wide outside of CHATER POWER and he was reluctant to continue riding forward having in mind the amount of the use he made of the horse in the early stages. He said near the 700 Metres he elected to cross CHATER POWER, however, he received a call from the rider of that horse and as he felt he may be causing interference, he immediately shifted back out into a three wide position. He said near the 600 Metres he pulled his whip through from his left hand to his right hand and at this point SUPER CHARGE shifted wider on the track. Apprentice Yeung was advised, in the circumstances, he would have been better served by making some further effort to cross CHATER POWER to race in a position outside the lead rather than remain racing three wide. When questioned, D Beadman (SEASON LINKZ) stated that his mount over-raced badly in the early and middle stages and proved quite difficult to settle. He said along the Back Straight he attempted to have SEASON LINKZ settled and for this reason he did not ride his mount along to hold his position on the back of ESPERANZA which allowed NUGGET WARRIOR to shift in in front of SEASON LINKZ and behind ESPERANZA. He said by allowing NUGGET WARRIOR to shift in at this time, he hoped that this would help SEASON LINKZ settle and would also provide him with a horse to take him into the race. He said the manner in which SEASON LINKZ over-raced in the early and middle stages meant that the horse was not able to finish off the race. D Beadman was told wherever possible he should maintain favourable positions in the run. A veterinary inspection of NUGGET WARRIOR and SEASON LINKZ after the race did not show any significant findings. SEASON LINKZ, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER and CHATER POWER were sent for sampling. <17/9/2009 Additional Veterinary Report> NUGGET WARRIOR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. NUGGET WARRIOR was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, NUGGET WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
