Racing Incident Report
TOUCH CHIC and EXTRA SPECIAL were slow to begin. CONFUCIUS FORTUNE began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by PRAISING which shifted out. Passing the 1000 Metres, FRESH AIR was checked away from the heels of BUMBLE BEE. Passing the 800 Metres, LOTUS LOVE was checked when momentarily awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of INCREDIBLE EAGLE. LOTS OF FUN and CONFUCIUS FORTUNE, which were following, were hampered in consequence and GALLANT HUSSAR, which was following CONFUCIUS FORTUNE, was obliged to be steadied away from the heels of that horse, taking THE KID wider. Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, INCREDIBLE EAGLE got its head on the side and hung in. Passing the 200 Metres, CONFUCIUS FORTUNE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of GALLANT HUSSAR. Throughout the race, PRAISING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, C W Wong said that prior to the Home Turn BUMBLE BEE got its head on the side and commenced to lay out. He said for this reason FRESH AIR was able to improve its position to the inside of BUMBLE BEE. C W Wong was advised in similar circumstances to make every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. When questioned, J Lloyd (GALLANT HUSSAR) stated that he had hoped to obtain a position in about 5th or 6th place if possible. He said shortly after the start STAR LEGEND maintained its position to his inside one horse off the fence, therefore he elected passing the 1100 Metres to obtain a position behind that horse with cover. He said when CONFUCIUS FORTUNE then improved quickly to the inside of GALLANT HUSSAR, his mount became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of INCREDIBLE EAGLE which shifted in and which resulted in GALLANT HUSSAR being unable to shift in. He said because of this GALLANT HUSSAR raced further back in the field than had been intended. When questioned, Y T Cheng (TOUCH CHIC) explained that passing the 600 Metres he was following GALLANT HUSSAR. He said rather than shifting to a three wide position and follow THE KID forward, he elected to remain racing behind GALLANT HUSSAR as that horse was one of the favoured runners and he felt that it would be able to take him into the race. He said he followed GALLANT HUSSAR until straightening at which time he shifted TOUCH CHIC to the outside of that horse and TOUCH CHIC then finished off the race well. A veterinary inspection of STAR LEGEND and LOTS OF FUN after the race did not show any significant findings. GALLANT HUSSAR, FRESH AIR and GUAN DAO were sent for sampling.
