Racing Incident Report
Near the 800 Metres, JAMESINA raced tight between TUSCAN SPIRIT and JACKPOT DELIGHT which shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, MR MEDICI shifted out under pressure. In the Straight, YUMMY SPIRITS got its head on the side and hung in. When questioned, Apprentice M L Yeung (JACKPOT DELIGHT) stated that in the early stages he was travelling three wide to the outside of BEST FRIEND. He said near the 1600 Metres he attempted to steady and obtain a position behind that horse and with cover, however, JAMESINA, which had originally drawn outside of JACKPOT DELIGHT, had improved to be racing to the inside of JACKPOT DELIGHT. He said for this reason he was left racing three wide and without cover. He said he felt that he would have had to overly restrain JACKPOT DELIGHT to come back and race behind JAMESINA and as MR MEDICI had shifted across with BEST FRIEND to be racing in a one-off position, he had no alternative but to continue racing wide and without cover. When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that although he had been asked to carry the whip in the right hand due to YUMMY SPIRITS’ inclination to hang in, he is more comfortable carrying the whip in the left hand. He said after entering the Straight whilst he always intended to pull the whip through to his right hand, he used the whip in the left hand on YUMMY SPIRITS and the horse was racing tractably. He said near the 200 Metres YUMMY SPIRITS commenced to lay in slightly, he pulled the whip into the right hand and commenced to use the whip in that hand. He said after he commenced using the whip in the right hand, YUMMY SPIRITS hung in more significantly and proved somewhat difficult to ride. MR MEDICI and YUMMY SPIRITS were sent for sampling.
