Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the saddling stalls, it was noted that LUCKY BOY had lost its right hind plate. This plate was refitted. LUCKY BOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CHINA WIN was slow to begin. From wide barriers, ADMIRATION and BIG CHIEF were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Apprentice M L Yeung (GUAN DAO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY BOY and after having crossed that horse then did unnecessarily steady the pace which resulted LUCKY BOY being checked. Apprentice Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 18 October 2010 on which day he may resume race riding (Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 10 October 2010. Near the 850 Metres, when being shifted across behind AMAZING SKY to obtain cover, ACHILLES OF TROY (Apprentice C Y Ho) struck the heels of that horse and blundered. Apprentice Ho was advised to ensure that he is more attentive when shifting ground so that he does not place his mounts in dangerous positions close to the heels of other runners. RAINBOW SEEKER, which was following ACHILLES OF TROY, was hampered in consequence. BIG CHIEF proved difficult to settle approaching and passing the 800 Metres. After reaching the lead passing the 800 Metres, HAWTHORNE (C K Tong) steadied the tempo, resulting in GUAN DAO, LUCKY BOY, COSMO SUCCESSOR, WINNER SMART and CHINA WIN being hampered. C K Tong was advised of his responsibility to ensure that he does not slacken the pace of races to such an extent where interference is caused to trailing runners. After the 700 Metres, GUAN DAO got its head on the side and hung out. Near the 600 Metres, WINNER SMART shifted out away from the heels of COSMO SUCCESSOR, resulting in BIG CHIEF being taken out onto the hindquarters of LOMBARDI which became unbalanced. Rounding the Home Turn, COSMO SUCCESSOR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BE MY SONG. In the early part of the Straight, RAINBOW SEEKER was steadied away from the heels of COSMO SUCCESSOR. After this, RAINBOW SEEKER was held up for clear running between COSMO SUCCESSOR and WINNER SMART which shifted out. Passing the 400 Metres, ACHILLES OF TROY was badly held up for clear running when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BIG CHIEF which at this time was commencing to give ground. Passing the 300 Metres, NEW KING PRAWN shifted out and bumped CHINA WIN. ADMIRATION was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 200 Metres. Throughout the race, BE MY SONG travelled wide and without cover. LOMBARDI, ADMIRATION and CHINA WIN were sent for sampling.
