Racing Incident Report

GOOD LOOKING WATCH was withdrawn on 15.2.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter JIMSON THE BEST (M Guyon). Before being allowed to race again, GOOD LOOKING WATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VIVA GUY knuckled over badly on jumping. HAPPY CHA CHA, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, was slow to begin. FIERCE FORCE was slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, JIMSON THE BEST was steadied away from the heels of DRAGON CHOICE. Passing the 600 Metres, FORTUNE WARRIOR was momentarily crowded for room between HAPPY CHA CHA and VIVA GUY which shifted in marginally. Approaching the 200 Metres, HAPPY CHA CHA was steadied when crowded for room between JOLLY WONGCHOY and FAST INTENTIONS which, when commencing to give ground, shifted out abruptly. Near the 100 Metres, MEDIC FORTUNE was shifted to the outside of the heels of KOENIGSBERG to continue improving. The performance of FORTUNE WARRIOR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE WARRIOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, D Beadman stated that passing the 1000 Metres COUNTRY MAGIC became unbalanced in its action. He said after this COUNTRY MAGIC was following COMPACT YARN and passing the 600 Metres he attempted to maintain his position on the back of that horse, however, COUNTRY MAGIC got its head on the side and was reluctant to maintain its position inside DRAGON CHOICE which shifted in slightly He said making the turn after the 550 Metres COUNTRY MAGIC continued to be reluctant to maintain its position inside DRAGON CHOICE and then rounding the Home Turn DRAGON CHOICE got its head on the side and shifted in in front of COUNTRY MAGIC. He added that in the early part of the Straight he placed COUNTRY MAGIC under pressure, however, the horse felt uncomfortable in its action. He added he balanced COUNTRY MAGIC and near the 200 Metres placed the horse under pressure for the remainder of the race, however, after this it did not close off the race. When questioned, W C Marwing stated that he had been instructed to ride FAST INTENTIONS positively in the early stages and obtain a position behind the leaders if possible. He said it was felt that there was speed drawn to his outside and that horses would be able to shift across and provide FAST INTENTIONS with cover. He said in accordance with his instructions, he rode his mount positively in the early stages and approaching the winning post on the first occasion was racing in a three wide position outside COMPACT YARN and FORTUNE WARRIOR. He said after riding FAST INTENTIONS along to cross these horses, he attempted to steady FAST INTENTIONS after the 1300 Metres in order to race outside COMPACT YARN which would allow JOLLY WONGCHOY to take up the lead. He added however that FAST INTENTIONS proved difficult to settle and when JOLLY WONGCHOY did not improve its position around FAST INTENTIONS as he expected, FAST INTENTIONS was left racing in the lead. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on MEDIC FORTUNE at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Officer reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY WONGCHOY and FORTUNE WARRIOR after the race did not show any significant findings. COMPACT YARN and JIMSON THE BEST were sent for sampling.
