Racing Incident Report

UNION’S STAR was withdrawn on 22.10.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KING OF THE DAY (M Chadwick). Before being allowed to race again, UNION’S STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being loaded, PALEPALE became fractious and broke through the front gates. PALEPALE was quickly restrained and returned to the Start. A veterinary inspection of PALEPALE found the horse to be suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, PALEPALE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. DEPOSER was difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, DEPOSER will also be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. LUCKY TURBO began awkwardly and lost ground. CLYDESIDER was slow to begin. SHINING TRIUMPH was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of VINTAGE HUSSLER which shifted out. Over the final 200 Metres, DOUBLE LUCK got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that approaching the 600 Metres he obtained a position three wide outside HAWTHORNE. He said he felt at this time that the rider of HAWTHORNE was considering pressing on and crossing VINTAGE HUSSLER to its inside and therefore he looked to his inside to establish whether he would be able to shift in to a one-off position if this occurred. He said however that HAWTHORNE maintained its position one off the fence which resulted in him remaining in the three wide position. He added after the 600 Metres SUPREME TAIJI improved its position to the inside of KING OF THE DAY when SPACE RACE shifted in to race on the fence behind VINTAGE HUSSLER. He said after this KING OF THE DAY got its head on the side, lay out and shifted wider. A veterinary inspection of DEPOSER after the race did not show any significant findings. DOUBLE LUCK and SPACE RACE were sent for sampling.
