Racing Incident Report
BEST WIN was withdrawn on 24.11.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucopus on scoping after track work) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRUMP (M Chadwick). Before being allowed to race again, BEST WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
From wide barriers, TRUMP, FLASH KNIGHT and RIDE WITH THE WIND were all taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Shortly after the start, GROOVY was hampered and SIR EAGLES checked when crowded for room between G-ONE WINNING which was taken out by BERIO and CALIFORNIAVITALITY (K C Leung) which, when being ridden along, shifted in. K C Leung was reprimanded and advised to ensure he employs every available measure to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, GROOVY proved difficult to settle and had to be checked away from the heels of KING OF PATCH for some distance. Then after the 800 Metres, GROOVY got its head up when being checked away from the heels of SIR EAGLES. TRUMP, which was following, was hampered in consequence.
After the 800 Metres, GREEN EAGLE was checked away from the heels of KING OF REASON.
Also after the 800 Metres, G-ONE WINNING was shifted out away from the heels of BERIO when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. KING FOLKS, which was racing to the outside of G-ONE WINNING, was taken wider. After this, KING FOLKS travelled wide and without cover.
TRUMP was badly held up for clear running until near the 250 Metres.
GREEN EAGLE was not able to obtain clear running until after the 200 Metres.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BERIO, T H So stated that his mount travelled well until the 400 Metres at which point he placed the horse under pressure. He said BERIO did not respond to his riding and, in his opinion, was disappointing, particularly given that it had been racing consistently prior to this race. A veterinary inspection of BERIO after the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SIR EAGLES had lost its right front plate.
A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIAVITALITY after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea and it had lost its right hind plate.
KING OF REASON and STERLING CITY were sent for sampling.
<26/11/2012 Additional Veterinary Report>BERIO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BERIO was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BERIO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CALIFORNIAVITALITY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse’s trachea. CALIFORNIAVITALITY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIAVITALITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
