Racing Incident Report
After being loaded, REWARDING HERO became fractious and reared. REWARDING HERO was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, REWARDING HERO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
SUN PINS began awkwardly and shortly after the start was crowded for room between ATACX and MR GINGER which shifted out.
TRUMP began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SUPER LIFELINE which in turn was taken out onto STRATHTAY.
From the outside barrier, MR GNOCCHI was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, MR GINGER was bumped by VICTORY HERO which in turn was bumped by YEE CHEONG STAR.
Approaching the 800 Metres, GLACIER BLUE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HELENE FUN STAR.
Near the 300 Metres, TRUMP and HELENE FUN STAR, which was giving ground, were crowded for room between SUN PINS and GLACIER BLUE which got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure.
SUPER LIFELINE, which had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of Straight, was shifted out away from the heels of GLACIER BLUE near the 200 Metres. SUPER LIFELINE was then held up for clear running behind GLACIER BLUE and ATACX for some distance after the 200 Metres and passing the 100 Metres was again awkwardly placed outside the heels of GLACIER BLUE. Because of this, SUPER LIFELINE was not able to be properly tested in the Straight.
Over the concluding stages, VICTORY HERO, which was closing off strongly, was unable to be ridden out to the line when awkwardly placed close to the heels of YEE CHEONG STAR.
For the majority of the race, ATACX travelled wide and without cover.
Mr L Ho, the trainer of YEE CHEONG STAR, which was racing over 1400 Metres for the first time in Hong Kong, advised that it was his intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position today. He said at its last start at Happy Valley over 1200 Metres, the horse had drawn wide and for this reason it was ridden back in the field.
When questioned, Z Purton stated that, from barrier 7, he had been instructed to shift MR GINGER across behind runners and ride the horse similarly to the manner in which it was ridden at its last start when it closed off the race strongly. He said after shifting across behind runners in the early stages, MR GINGER became unbalanced in its action on a number of occasions and when asked for an effort in the Straight failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, was disappointing. Trainer C Fownes advised that after beginning from barrier 12 at its most recent start which was its first start for his stable, MR GINGER closed off the race strongly when ridden in a rearward position. He said he anticipated that the horse would again be able to close off the race if ridden in a similar manner. He added he had hoped that MR GINGER would be able to eventually step up in distance to 1600 Metres and he wanted to ensure that the horse was able to settle in its races to give it every opportunity to see out the longer distance. He said, in his opinion, the horse was disappointing today in its failure to respond to Jockey Purton’s riding. A veterinary inspection of MR GINGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER LIFELINE and GLACIER BLUE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
REWARDING HERO and MR GNOCCHI were sent for sampling.
