Racing Incident Report
Whilst in the saddling stalls, IMPERIAL CHAMPION had its left front plate refitted. IMPERIAL CHAMPION was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
As the start was effected, HAPPY YEAH YEAH stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Having regard to HAPPY YEAH YEAH’s previous record of issues at the barriers, the Stewards ruled that the horse must undergo a series of satisfactory consecutive official barrier trials prior to being permitted to race again.
IMPERIAL CHAMPION was slow to begin.
From the outside barrier, GREAT SPIRIT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
SMART VOLATILITY lost its left front plate near the 1000 Metres.
Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, OUR FOLKS raced tight between ACCESS YEARS and IMPERIAL CHAMPION which was taken out slightly by BEAUTY SPARKLE.
For a considerable distance after the 700 Metres, BERLINSKI was checked away from the heels of IMPERIAL CHAMPION and near the 550 Metres lost ground when it continued to be very awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse.
Passing the 300 Metres, BERLINSKI had some difficulty securing clear running.
In the Straight, SILLY BUDDIES lay in under pressure.
Throughout the race, ACCESS YEARS travelled wide and without cover.
For the majority of the race, OUR FOLKS also travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, M Du Plessis (IMPERIAL CHAMPION) reported that his mount coughed on straightening and consequently gave ground abruptly. A veterinary inspection of IMPERIAL CHAMPION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of IMPERIAL CHAMPION, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, IMPERIAL CHAMPION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, T Angland stated that he had to make considerable use of SMART VOLATILITY in the early stages from barrier 9 in an attempt to cross runners to his inside. He said SMART VOLATILITY, despite being ridden along, was left racing wide albeit with cover, however, the horse was disappointing in that it commenced to come under pressure well before the Home Turn and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of SMART VOLATILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LORD SINCLAIR, SMART MAN and SILLY BUDDIES were sent for sampling.
