Racing Incident Report
Whilst in the saddling stalls, DINOZZO had its right hind plate refitted. DINOZZO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
HAPPY PLACE was crowded for room on jumping between PACKING DRAGON and STAR MAJESTIC which shifted out. In this incident, PACKING DRAGON became unbalanced when bumped by HAPPY PLACE.
Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, SUPREME PROFIT failed to muster speed.
After the 1100 Metres, DINOZZO was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 800 Metres, HEROIC GURU was ridden along to maintain its position inside SERGEANT TITANIUM which lay in momentarily.
HAPPY PLACE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and approaching the 200 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of PACKING DRAGON in an attempt to obtain clear running.
Passing the 200 Metres, SERGEANT TITANIUM was shifted in away from the heels of TRAVEL FIRST, resulting in HAPPY PLACE being momentarily crowded for room outside PACKING DRAGON.
Passing the 150 Metres, SERGEANT TITANIUM was awkwardly placed when racing in restricted room between TRAVEL FIRST and HAPPY PLACE which shifted out.
When questioned, G Mosse stated that he had been instructed to lead on PACKING DRAGON in accordance with the horse’s established racing pattern. He said after obtaining the lead in the early stages, TRAVEL FIRST improved to the outside of PACKING DRAGON after the 1400 Metres and he had to ride his mount along to ensure that he was not crossed by that horse. He said TRAVEL FIRST took some time to be able to clear runners to its inside to race directly outside PACKING DRAGON and as he did not want that horse to improve into the lead, he was required to make more use of PACKING DRAGON than he had hoped in order for the horse to maintain the lead. He said because of the fast tempo of the race in the early and middle stages, PACKING DRAGON was then not able to finish off the race. When questioned, T H So stated that he had been instructed to ride TRAVEL FIRST in a forward position as it normally races up on the speed. He said he had to make some use of TRAVEL FIRST in the early stages in order to cross BASIC TRILOGY which was being ridden along in order to clear runners to its inside. He said because BASIC TRILOGY had to be ridden along to cross DINNOZO after the 1200 Metres and then STAR MAJESTIC after the 1100 Metres, he was required to make too much use of TRAVEL FIRST to cross BASIC TRILOGY as he felt it was best to continue on in advance of that horse rather than sit three wide. He added after crossing BASIC TRILOGY near the 1100 Metres, he attempted to steady the tempo and sit off PACKING DRAGON, however, the pace up until that stage had been fast but this was due to the fact that he had to make use of TRAVEL FIRST to cross runners to its inside. G Mosse and T H So were advised that whilst the circumstances of the race required TRAVEL FIRST to be ridden along to cross runners to its inside, nonetheless they must, in similar circumstances, do their utmost to set a tempo which will allow their mounts to finish off the race as best as they are able.
A veterinary inspection of ANTICIPATION, BASIC TRILOGY and PACKING DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DINOZZO and HAPPY PLACE were sent for sampling.
