Racing Incident Report
KING KANALOA was withdrawn on 30.10.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (head trauma). Before being allowed to race again, KING KANALOA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SAVANNAH WIND began only fairly and then was steadied away from the heels of KING’S MAN.
From the outside barrier, SPEEDY WALLY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being vigorously ridden for some distance after the start, PO CHING TREASURE failed to muster speed.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was checked when crowded for room inside GOOD FIT (K Teetan) which when shifted behind PO CHING TREASURE became unbalanced and shifted in abruptly before being directed back out. As the Stewards were satisfied that K Teetan had reacted in a timely manner to prevent GOOD FIT from shifting in, they did not proceed to a charge of careless riding, however, he was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to give other runners comfortable racing room. When ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was checked, it shifted out, resulting in SAVANNAH WIND being badly crowded for room and taken out onto SPEEDY WALLY which became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by SAVANNAH WIND.
T H So (LETSGOFREE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of HAY RUN, causing that horse to be checked away from the heels of LETSGOFREE and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. T H So was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 7 November 2018 and to expire on Sunday, 11 November 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
Shortly after entering the Straight, GRAN MASTER raced tight outside GOOD FIT which shifted out to improve between GRAN MASTER and ART OF RAW.
After the 300 Metres, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LETSGOFREE which shifted out marginally under pressure.
Approaching the 200 Metres, HAY RUN became unbalanced after being bumped by ENJOYABLE SUCCESS which at this time was taken out by LETSGOFREE (T H So) which shifted marginally under pressure. T H So was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to be aware of his mounts shifting ground and to take measures to straighten them at the earliest opportunity.
The performance of GREAT JOY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT JOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, U Rispoli stated that he was asked, from barrier 11, to attempt to position DIAMOND FRIENDS behind the speed in about 3rd or 4th position. He said passing the winning post on the first occasion he steadied his mount as he felt that there was an opportunity to shift in to race behind GRAN MASTER, however, at this time GREAT JOY had established its position behind that horse. He said as he did not believe it was available to him to obtain a position with cover behind the leader, he was then left racing three wide and without cover. He said he rode DIAMOND FRIENDS along passing the 1400 Metres to see if he could cross GRAN MASTER and obtain a position closer to the rail, however, when that horse continued to hold its position, DIAMOND FRIENDS was left racing three wide and without cover for the remainder of the race.
The Stewards will question Apprentice C Wong regarding the disappointing performance of GRAN MASTER prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 4 November 2018. A veterinary inspection of GRAN MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GREAT JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of ART OF RAW immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ART OF RAW will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HAY RUN, GOOD FIT and KING’S MAN were sent for sampling.
<1/11/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>GREAT JOY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. GREAT JOY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, GREAT JOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
ART OR RAW, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time an endoscopic examination of the horse showed a substantial amount of blood in its trachea. ART OF RAW was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, ART OF RAW will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
<4/11/2018 31 October 2018 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 6 (142)>When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GRAN MASTER, Apprentice C Wong stated that, as instructed, he rode his mount positively in the early stages to obtain a forward position from a wide barrier. He said after shifting in to race outside the lead passing the winning post on the first occasion, GRAN MASTER then travelled satisfactorily throughout the early and middle stages. He said the horse then came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and did not quicken for him at this time. He added he continued to test GRAN MASTER, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground, particularly over the final 200 Metres.
