Racing Incident Report
EMPIRE OF PATCH began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SMART CHARADE which, after becoming unbalanced, was steadied to obtain cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of HAPPY TOUR, C Schofield stated that after being able to obtain an uncontested lead in the early stages, he was satisfied with the manner in which HAPPY TOUR travelled until passing the 500 Metres. He said when GALLANT RETURN improved outside HAPPY TOUR near the 500 Metres, his mount came under immediate pressure and did not respond to his riding in the early part of the Straight. He said HAPPY TOUR was particularly weak over the final 200 Metres. He added HAPPY TOUR felt comfortable in its action and did not appear to be sore after the race and therefore he was not able to offer any explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of EMPIRE OF PATCH immediately following the race found that horse to have a substantial amount of blood in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, EMPIRE OF PATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HAPPY TOUR, NORDIC WARRIOR and SMART CHARADE were sent for sampling.
