Racing Incident Report
SUPER CHIC was withdrawn on 4.5.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind). Before being allowed to race again, SUPER CHIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
RUTHVEN began only fairly and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY BOYS which shifted out.
After the 2300 Metres, MONGOLIAN KING got its head up when travelling keenly.
Near the 2200 Metres, HELENE CHARISMA was crowded for room between SAVVY SIX and HELENE LEADINGSTAR (K C Leung) which shifted in. K C Leung was reprimanded. In this incident, SAVVY SIX became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by HELENE CHARISMA.
As TASHIDELEK was being steadied to the outside of INSAYSHABLE near the 350 Metres, RUTHVEN was able to improve its position to be racing outside the heels of TASHIDELEK (G van Niekerk) as that horse shifted out. After being taken out by TASHIDELEK, RUTHVEN then shifted out away from that horse, resulting in HELENE CHARISMA which was hanging in being checked away from the heels of RUTHVEN. The Stewards were of the opinion that there were a number of circumstances associated with this incident and therefore no further action was taken other than G van Niekerk was advised to ensure that he is properly clear at all times when shifting ground.
Passing the 300 Metres, MONGOLIAN KING was bumped by RUTHVEN which was taken out by TASHIDELEK. G van Niekerk was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in future.
Passing the 200 Metres, RUTHVEN was crowded for room between MONGOLIAN KING (M L Yeung) which initially shifted in and TASHIDELEK which then shifted out. Both M L Yeung and G van Niekerk were reprimanded and advised to ensure that they make every endeavour to prevent their mounts from shifting ground, crowding the room of other runners.
G van Niekerk stated that he was instructed to shift TASHIDELEK towards the centre of the track to make its finishing run. He said because of this at the entrance to the Straight he commenced to shift TASHIDELEK to the outside of INSAYSHABLE which near the 400 Metres shifted in. He said because TASHIDELEK was inside the heels of INSAYSHABLE as that horse shifted in, it took him some time to be able to shift to the outside of INSAYSHABLE during which time INSAYSHABLE shifted back out which resulted in a run to the inside of that horse and outside HELENE LEADINGSTAR being available. He said however that as he was committed to shift to the outside of INSAYSHABLE, he continued to allow that horse to shift out as he was mindful of his instructions to have the horse positioned away from the rail if possible in the Straight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HELENE CHARISMA, C Schofield stated that he felt the horse may have been advantaged by today’s track conditions, however, based on the manner in which HELENE CHARISMA immediately came under pressure after the 600 Metres after travelling strongly throughout the race, he believed that HELENE CHARISMA is better suited racing at Happy Valley as, in his opinion, the horse was disinterested in the race over the latter stages.
After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that HO HO KHAN was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, HO HO KHAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of RUTHVEN and HELENE CHARISMA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HO HO KHAN and SAVVY SIX were sent for sampling.
