Racing Incident Report

GLITTERING ARMOUR and DR LUCKY STAR began only fairly.
GREAT HARVEST shifted in at the start and bumped GIFT OF LIFELINE.
GOLDEN FOUR shifted out at the start and bumped SUPREME WITNESS which in turn shifted out, resulting in GINTOKI being momentarily crowded for room between SUPREME WITNESS and DR RESPECT which shifted in.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, MAGIC SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of THE SHOW (Apprentice K H Chan) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Chan was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Near the 1250 Metres, GLITTERING ARMOUR was momentarily crowded for room inside GALAXY RACER which was taken in by GREAT HARVEST (M F Poon) which shifted in. M F Poon was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
Near the 900 Metres, GOLDEN FOUR momentarily raced in restricted room inside GLITTERING ARMOUR which got its head on the side and lay in away from the heels of GALAXY RACER.
At the 850 Metres, DR RESPECT was steadied away from the heels of GREAT HARVEST after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.
After the 400 Metres, THE SHOW was checked away from the heels of SUPREME WITNESS when held up for clear running behind that horse.
GLITTERING ARMOUR had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Approaching the 350 Metres, MR MAGELLAN was held up for clear running when racing inside GIFT OF LIFELINE. MR MAGELLAN was then shifted to the outside of GIFT OF LIFELINE after the 300 Metres to obtain clear running.
GOLDEN FOUR was held up for clear running from near the 350 Metres until approaching the 200 Metres at which time it was directed to the outside of GINTOKI to obtain clear running.
THE SHOW had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres.
Throughout the race, GINTOKI travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if OLD HAVANA had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from C Y Ho, the rider of OLD HAVANA, and Mr A Speechley, the Starter, it was established that after being loaded into the barriers OLD HAVANA was very fractious and reared on a number of occasions. It was further established that as the start was effected OLD HAVANA, which was being assisted by a starting gate handler, reared abruptly, resulting in the horse losing a significant amount of ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that OLD HAVANA missing the start had been as a direct result of its behaviour in the barrier stalls, that horse had been afforded a fair start and accordingly was deemed to be a runner. Before being allowed to race again, OLD HAVANA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
A veterinary inspection of SUPREME WITNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MAGIC SUCCESS and MR MAGELLAN were sent for sampling.
