Racing Incident Report
SMART FOLKS began awkwardly.
WINNING BREW stumbled at the start and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Shortly after the start, MASTER MONTARO shifted out and inconvenienced WINNING BREW. MASTER MONTARO then got its head up for some distance when being steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
From a wide barrier, REGENCY BO BO was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 1150 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN was awkwardly placed outside the heels of HELLO BEAUTY when being steadied to obtain cover.
Passing the 900 Metres, HELLO BEAUTY got its head up when being steadied to allow NOIR RIDER to cross.
Passing the 800 Metres, SMART FOLKS lost ground when racing in restricted room inside WINNING BREW which was racing tight inside MASTER MONTARO.
Approaching the 700 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed behind SOULMATE which was racing close to the heels of TAKE WHAT YOU NEED. SUPER DOBBIN then continued to race keenly and again got its head up passing the 650 Metres.
WINNING BREW was held up for a run passing the 350 Metres and then was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Passing the 300 Metres, SHADOW RUNNER was inconvenienced by SUPER DOBBIN which improved into clear running to the outside of TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.
TRANSCENDENT shifted out under pressure after the 300 Metres.
Throughout the race, SHADOW RUNNER travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, C Schofield stated that he had ridden SUPER DOBBIN in a barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race and the horse had trialed well when ridden from off the speed. He said in a number of its recent races SUPER DOBBIN had not finished off its race as anticipated when ridden in a forward position and therefore he recommended to connections that they allow him to ride the horse more conservatively today with a view to it finishing off the race better than it had been. He said the connections were supportive of this suggestion and therefore it was decided to ride the horse in about midfield. He added after racing somewhat keenly in the middle stages, SUPER DOBBIN finished off the race strongly in the Straight which it had not been doing in recent starts.
After the race, C Y Ho stated that SUNSET WATCH never travelled comfortably and was under pressure a long way from the finish. He said after being shifted to the outside of SHADOW RUNNER to obtain clear running rounding the Home Turn, SUNSET WATCH gave him a limited response in the early part of the Straight, however, was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of SUNSET WATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, it was reported that MASTER MONTARO had sustained a small overreach wound to the left front heel.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING BREW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MASTER MONTARO and SUPER DOBBIN were sent for sampling.
