Racing Incident Report
M UNICORN jumped awkwardly, resulting in M UNICORN and its rider, H Bentley, making contact with the left side of its barrier.
MORE RICE jumped awkwardly and then shortly after the start was badly crowded between FORTUNE WARRIOR which shifted out and MR MAJESTIC which jumped awkwardly and shifted in. In this incident, MORE RICE and MR MAJESTIC made heavy contact, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
NINJA DERBY also jumped awkwardly and over-raced throughout the early and middle stages and refused to settle.
From the outside barrier, AUGUST MOON was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 300 Metres, MORE RICE became held up behind FORTUNE WARRIOR when that runner commenced to give ground. MORE RICE was then shifted in to a narrow run to the outside of FORTUNE WARRIOR and in doing so made contact with FAST BUCK for some distance thereafter.
After the race, Z Purton (FORTUNE WARRIOR) reported that his mount made a respiratory noise during the running of the event and as a result did not finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE WARRIOR immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. The performance of FORTUNE WARRIOR, favourite for the race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE WARRIOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, it was noted that FORTUNE WARRIOR had lost its right front plate.
Also after the race, K C Leung (AUGUST MOON) reported that his mount would derive benefit from its first up performance today. A veterinary inspection of AUGUST MOON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FAST BUCK immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small abrasion to the left front pastern.
FORTUNE WARRIOR, SUPER WINNER and M UNICORN were sent for sampling.
