C Maher
Other Trainers
Ciaron Maher |
Age: 43 |
Background: Ciaron Maher grew up on his parent’s dairy farm and spent time around horses from a young age. For a few years, Maher rode as a jockey in Australia until the age of 23 when he was forced to quit riding due to his growing weight. His natural interest and curiosity in training saw him commit to a career as a trainer. He spent time with Bart Cummings, Aidan O’Brian and Willie Mullins before commencing on his own. In under three years of training he won his first Group 1 with Tears I Cry in the 2007 Emirates Stakes. Despite having to wait seven years for his next top-level win with Set Square in the 2014 VRC Oaks, he continued his rise remarkably among the competitive Victorian training ranks. He has won the Melbourne Cup (2022, Gold Trip), Caulfield Cup (2016 Jameka, 2024 Duke De Sessa), W.S. Cox Plate (2020 Sir Dragonet), Victoria Derby (2021 Hitotsu) and The Everest (2024 Bella Nipotina) among other big-race wins. |
