Background:
Mitsumasa Nakauchida has spent his entire life around horses after being born on a pre-training farm in Western Japan and, at the age of 16, he left Japan and went to Ireland, UK, France and US to learn about training horses, before returning to his homeland and work as a groom for the Mikio Matsunaga stable in 2007. He obtained his JRA trainer’s licence in 2012 and has won the JRA Award four times, for the highest winning percentage, in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022. He added three more Group 1 wins to his tally in 2023 with Liberty Island, the winner of Japan’s Triple Tiara. (Oka Sho, Japanese Oaks and Shuka Sho). In 2024, he won the G2 Kinko Sho with Prognosis and G2 Daily Hai Queen Cup with Queen’s Walk.
