William Buick
Age: 35
Background:
Norwegian-born William Buick was joint champion apprentice in Britain in 2008 and rode his first G1 win on Lahaleeb in the E P Taylor Stakes the following year. He was appointed stable jockey to John Gosden in 2010 and the partnership started with a bang as he rode Dar Re Mi to win the Dubai Sheema Classic, the first of four wins in the race for Buick which also came atop Jack Hobbs (2017), Hawkbill (2018) and Old Persian (2019). In late 2014, he began his association with Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation, primarily riding for trainer Charlie Appleby. This partnership quickly proved fruitful as he took the Dubai World Cup the following March on Prince Bishop. Since riding with Godolphin, Buick has won top-level races in Great Britain, France, Canada, Germany, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. He has eight wins at the Breeders’ Cup, including last three editions of the Breeders’ Cup Mile with Space Blues (2021), Modern Games (2022) and Master Of The Seas (2023), and a sole success at the top-level in Hong Kong aboard Pakistan Star in the 2018 QEII Cup. Buick was crowned Britain’s champion jockey the past two seasons (2022 & 2023). He’s known for associations with Dream Ahead, Native Trail, Pinatubo, Ghaiyyath, Blue Point, Hurricane Lane and Masar, who he rode to win an Epsom Derby in 2018.
