Yasunari Iwata

Background:
Japanese jockey Yasunari Iwata transitioned from the regional NAR circuit to the JRA in 2006 and has ridden in excess of 4,000 winners. He won the 2005 World Super Jockeys Series as an NAR jockey. Iwata is a three-time Japan Cup winner: Admire Moon (2007), Buena Vista (2011) and Gentildonna (2012). He was also the first NAR rider to win a Classic in Japan when Delta Blues landed the 2004 Kikuka Sho. He made history two years later when Delta Blues won the 2006 Melbourne Cup. Iwata is also known for an association with champion sprinter Lord Kanaloa, a two-time winner of the Hong Kong Sprint (2012 & 2013). Iwata recently won the G3 Kyoto Kimpai atop Corepetiteur.
