Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened EQUUS ZEPHYRUS bounded in the air. WONDERFUL LIFE jumped awkwardly with its head up. CALL ME HANDSOME was slowly away. SMILEY WIN missed the start, then in the early part of the Straight was held up behind EQUUS ZEPHYRUS when tight on the inside of FLIRTING STAR. After the 200 Metres to obtain running SMILEY WIN was steadied and shifted out. In the early stages FLIRTING STAR, which had a tendency to be over-racing, was steadied to avoid CHIU CHOW BOY which shifted in when barely clear. After this incident FLIRTING STAR continued to prove very difficult to settle and rounding the first turn lost its position when awkwardly placed between INTEGRITY and HOLY RANTO, which itself was racing tight inside GLOBAL RUNNER. About the 800 Metres INTEGRITY shifted out across the heels of CHIU CHOW BOY this caused inconvenience to HOLY RANTO which was then carried across the heels of GLOBAL RUNNER. About the 500 Metres, WILFUL FLIGHT momentarily shifted in and bumped MR HONOUR then the Straight WILFUL FLIGHT hung in. About the 400 Metres CHIU CHOW BOY (E Legrix) was disappointed for running between GLOBAL RUNNER and WILFUL FLIGHT which was shifting ground and at this stage shifted out. After being disappointed for this run CHIU CHOW BOY was shifted towards the inside of WILFUL FLIGHT to go forward, that horse momentarily shifted ground but CHIU CHOW BOY continued with its run, as a consequence of this MR HONOUR was checked. Because of the circumstances involved it was decided that it would be inappropriate to take direct action but E Legrix was severely reprimanded and told in somewhat different circumstances action would have been taken against him. For a short distance near the 200 Metres FLIRTING STAR was awkward on the heels of EQUUS ZEPHYRUS when tight inside MR HONOUR. In the run to the winning post INTEGRITY hung in and proved difficult to ride out. After the race it was reported that CHIU CHOW BOY had lost its off side hind plate. After the race the Veterinary Surgeon observed that FLIRTING STAR was bleeding from the near side nostril. He said that when he carried out an endoscopic examination of FLIRTING STAR there were signs of blood in the larynx and in the windpipe of the horse. He was therefore of the opinion that FLIRTING STAR should be deemed to have suffered a bleeding attack.
