Racing Incident Report

On the way to the saddling stalls, it was noted that CRAIG'S PRIDE had lost its near side front plate. This was replaced before the horse was saddled up. CRAIG'S PRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. JAMIESON jumped very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of CHINESESPORT GLORY which on leaving the gates shifted in. On jumping, LONGMARK bounded in the air, then shifted out and bumped PEARL AND GOLD which in turn shifted ground, made contact with BON BON. BIG MAC missed the start slightly, was then checked when crowded between ONLY THE BRAVE and FORTUNE PRIZES, both of which shifted some ground. Turning out of the Straight the first time, GOLD CHARM was awkward between LONGMARK and FORTUNE PRIZES which was taken out slightly by ONLY THE BRAVE. In the early and middle stages, LONGMARK, which was hanging out, raced in a forward position, but was obliged to race very wide without any cover. Then rounding the Home Turn when giving ground, LONGMARK again hung out. Near the 700 Metres, NIGHT HUNTER broke down and fell. GOLD CHARM and PEARL AND GOLD which were following were severely checked and BON BON was checked. About the 700 Metres, TREASURE FIELD, which was not travelling well, was checked when crowded by CHINESESPORT GLORY (D Whyte) which shifted in slightly. When TREASURE FIELD checked, JAMIESON, which was following, was checked in consequence. The Stewards could not be satisfied that D Whyte was fully responsible for the crowding and took no direct action, but he was reprimanded and told that whilst tight riding is expected in this competitive environment, there is a limit to which it can be taken. About the 500 Metres, GOLD CHARM was again checked to avoid the heels of ONLY THE BRAVE which itself was awkward on the inside of FORTUNE PRIZES. In the Straight, PEARL AND GOLD hung in. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of Apprentice K C Tsang (FORTUNE PRIZES) in the run to the line did not affect the horse's position, they did advise him he must ride all his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible.
