Racing Incident Report

Whilst parading before the race, it was noted that GAGNANT was walking short in its off side hind leg. After arriving at the Start, GAGNANT was trotted up, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed the situation with K H Ting and it was then decided that GAGNANT was suitable to race. As the Senior Veterinary Surgeon was concerned with the way NANNING TREASURE was walking in front, he requested the horse to be examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the Start. NANNING TREASURE was trotted up, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and he decided the horse was suitable to race. NANNING TREASURE jumped awkwardly with its head up. BRAVO LONGTEMPS was slowly away. RARE COLLECTION was obliged to race wide throughout and several times in the middle stages was inconvenienced by NANNING TREASURE which was shifting ground. W M Lai (CHEETAH) pleaded guilty to a charge of improper riding [Rule 132(i)]. The improper riding being that at about the 400 Metres he looked to his inside and after becoming aware of a runner positioned there shifted CHEETAH in to improve inside STERLING CHANCE. As a consequence of this, GOLD FLASK was severely hampered, became badly unbalanced and was checked. W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 3 May 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Wednesday, 4 April 2001. W M Lai further pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that after the 200 Metres he permitted him mount to shift out whilst riding it out with the whip in his right hand when not clear of SPEED CAT. As a consequence of this, SPEED CAT lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. In relation to this matter, W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 23 April 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Wednesday, 4 April 2001. After the 200 Metres, PARTIKING and PROLIFIC WINNER were steadied when crowded for room between NANNING TREASURE which shifted in and SHAXI TREASURE which shifted out. It was decided no action be taken. SHAXI TREASURE from the outside draw raced in a forward position, but was caught wide and was not able to obtain cover at any stage. PARTIKING was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that PARTIKING had lost its near side front plate.
