Racing Incident Report

On jumping, HERO'S WAY was checked between TRADER JOE which shifted in and STRONG SCOTCH which was taken out by LOMOND'S FAY. SURVEY GENERAL was slowly away Making the first turn, JOKER was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of NATURAL WINNER. About the 1200 Metres, BELLAGIO was steadied away from the heels of STRONG SCOTCH when taken out slightly by FOREST SPRING. Near the 800 Metres, LOMOND'S FAY momentarily shifted in and bumped SUPER GOAL STRIKER, as a consequence of this that horse shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of COURAGE STAR. Rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight, TRADER JOE hung in, as a consequence of this proved difficult for A Marcus to ride out in his normal fashion. On straightening, STRONG SCOTCH (T Culhane) shifted in and caused some crowding to LOMOND'S FAY which in turn shifted in and inconvenienced HORNET which was giving ground. Inside HORNET, SUPER GOAL STRIKER was attempting a narrow run between that horse and COURAGE STAR. When HORNET was taken in slightly by LOMOND'S FAY, some crowding was caused by SUPER GOAL STRIKER to COURAGE STAR. It was decided in this case not to take any direct action, but T Culhane was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must stop riding and do all he can to avoid causing such crowding. Near the winning post, BELLAGIO was steadied when tightened for room between SURVEY GENERAL and HERO'S WAY which shifted in. F Coetzee (NATURAL WINNER) said the horse is usually not a strong track worker and he was concerned going into today's race that 1650 Metres may have been too short for NATURAL WINNER. He said at no stage in the early and middle stages was the horse able to keep up, got well out of its ground and in addition to this appeared to resent the kickback. He did say NATURAL WINNER finished the race off quite well. The explanations submitted by F Coetzee were accepted. NATURAL WINNER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
