Racing Incident Report

FLAMENCO STAR was withdrawn on 12.10.01 on veterinary grounds (sore near fore suspensory ligament). Before racing again, FLAMENCO STAR will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, HUANGDI bounded in the air, as a consequence lost considerable ground. About the 200 Metres, MUGHAL PALACE shifted out to go forward, in doing so brushed DESERT STORM. Apprentice S K Sit (SOMLUCK) said whilst endeavouring to adjust his goggles at about the 200 Metres, it became dislodged and fell off. D Whyte (DESERT STORM) said the horse left the gates only fairly as has been the practice with it in the past. He said DESERT STORM only travelled well until about the 600 Metres, but when he endeavoured to go forward the horse was reluctant to let down and over the concluding stages was very disappointing. He went on to say the horse had won its last two races on rain affected going and might not have been comfortable on today's firmer surface. He said he was inconvenienced slightly when MUGHAL PALACE improved on its inside about the 200 Metres, but in the circumstances of today's race this was of no significance. DESERT STORM was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the trainer requested that an endoscopic examination of DESERT STORM be performed. The Veterinary Surgeon said this revealed that DESERT STORM had a moderate amount of blood in its windpipe.
