Racing Incident Report
On jumping, SING SING SING and SPEEDY CHAMPION bumped. On leaving the gates, FOR SZESZE threw its head up. NEW DYNASTY jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MARTIAL HERO, then in the early stages NEW DYNASTY hung out. In the early and middle stages, GOLDEN GOBLET hung out. About the 300 Metres, BY INSTINCT when improving made contact with SING SING SING. When questioned, G Mossé (GRACIOUS FELLOW) said the horse was having its first run tonight on the All Weather Track and whilst he is aware GRACIOUS FELLOW is a horse with some potential, he is also conscious it is still quite green and has a lot to learn. He said he was instructed from a good gate to ride the horse if possible in a forward position. G Mossé said GRACIOUS FELLOW missed the start slightly, was then checked by PROJECTVISION which shifted in abruptly. He said as a consequence of this he got well back in the run to the first turn. He said about the 1300 Metres BY INSTINCT shifted cross to take up a position in front of him on the rail as it was entitled to do. He went on to say along the back he was travelling some lengths behind BY INSTINCT towards the inside of the heels of PROJECTVISION. He stated he called many times to W M Lai to alert him that he was on his inside in a rather awkward position. On the turn near the 700 Metres he stated he was concerned with the racing position in which he found himself and elected to steady back from inside PROJECTVISION. As a consequence of this, running towards the Home Turn he was last. On straightening, he had to steady and shift to the outside of PROJECTVISION to go forward and when making strong ground near the line was again inconvenienced when SING SING SING shifted in. G Mossé concluded by saying in the Straight whilst he did pull the whip on GRACIOUS FELLOW, the horse is young and as he felt it was racing at its top he did not ride it out as vigorously as he is able to do. He added on a horse with more racing experience he would have maintained his position in the middle stages and acknowledged in normal circumstances he should have done so, but in the special circumstance of this ride he elected to give up his position at that vital stage. G Mossé was severely reprimanded and told his riding at vital stages tonight had caused a lot of concern and had come under notice. He was told whilst the Stewards acknowledged GRACIOUS FELLOW is a young horse and still relatively inexperienced, it was explained to him the Stewards believe if racing in Hong Kong is to maintain a high level of public support the co-operation of not only himself on all horses inexperienced or otherwise is necessary. SPEEDY CHAMPION was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, PROJECTVISION was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse had copious amount of blood in the windpipe which was detected when he conducted an endoscopic examination. Before racing again, PROJECTVISION will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. Following the race, J Egan (NEW DYNASTY) reported to the Veterinary Surgeon that he was concerned with the action of the horse. NEW DYNASTY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse does have an unusual action and he has asked that before NEW DYNASTY races again, it be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
