Racing Incident Report
From a difficult gate, MERIDIAN STAR was obliged to race on the outside and without any cover. For some distance about the 800 Metres, MONARDS was unbalanced when awkwardly placed just inside the heels of GONLARGO. About the 300 Metres, MONARDS and KEEN WINNER came together. For a short distance at about the 200 Metres, HAPPY MOMENTUM was unbalanced when close to the heels of DANAMITE. E Saint-Martin (GOGGLES) explained since being in Hong Kong it has been established the horse is a nervy type, at its last run when ridden in a handy position and amongst other runners, GOGGLES proved very difficult to settle and over-raced. He said today the horse was racing in the hood for the first time and he was instructed by the trainer to ensure the horse was "switched off" early and make sure it had an opportunity of an uninterrupted run over the concluding stages. He said he therefore on jumping had a shorter hold of GOGGLES than he normally would, the horse took a little time for him to settle, but when other runners had passed, GOGGLES was travelling kindly for him at the rear. MERIDIAN STAR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
