Racing Incident Report

W C Marwing (FLYING BISHOP) was fined $2,000 for negligently weighing out without stirrup irons. As a consequence of this, the saddle was returned and W C Marwing re-weighed. GET IT EASY missed the start badly. Mr L Fownes, trainer of the horse, was told should it perform similarly again, action may be taken against it. RETURN A SMILE left the gates awkwardly with its head up. CALVADOS was slowly away. UTMOST EASY came from the gates awkwardly, was then checked when crowded between NICE MEMORIES which shifted out slightly and WAH YAN FORTUNE which on leaving the gates shifted in. Then about 100 Metres out, UTMOST EASY, when making ground, was steadied and shifted out rather abruptly to avoid STRATEGIC SELECT. CRYSTAL STEEL, which was travelling wide from a bad gate, raced ungenerously throughout. About the 300 Metres, FLYING BISHOP was steadied and shifted out to find running and go forward. In the run to the winning post, FLYING BISHOP hung out. Because of this, about 100 Metres out, W C Marwing stopped riding and changed his whip hand. The saddle on FLYING BISHOP shifted back slightly in running. When asked about the performance of STRATEGIC SELECT, S Dye said the horse in the early stages travelled satisfactorily, about the 700 Metres was reluctant to hold its position between NICE MEMORIES and FLYING BISHOP which was shifting away from the rail to follow TATTENHALL. S Dye said after this despite his riding STRATEGIC SELECT was not travelling as he expected it would and generally was disappointing. STRATEGIC SELECT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
