Racing Incident Report

KEWINS was slow into stride. TRY YOUR BEST missed the start slightly, was then rather severely checked between FOR SZESZE which on leaving the gates shifted out abruptly and COSMO ONE which shifted in abruptly away from WISHES which itself got its head on the side and shifted in. About the 800 Metres, COSMO ONE and FOR SZESZE were momentarily tightened for room between BLESSINGS' PARTNER and EQUUS ZEPHYRUS which was shifted in slightly to avoid the heels of FOREVER GOLD (Apprentice M W Leung) which was shifting in when not quite clear. Apprentice M W Leung was told he must exercise much more care when shifting ground. On the latter part of the turn and in the Straight, WISHES hung in. K S Yu (COSMO ONE) said in the middle stages the horse became unbalanced several times. W C Marwing (FOR SZESZE) said approaching the 200 Metres the horse was making some ground into a run on the inside of EQUUS ZEPHYRUS. He said however after the 200 Metres EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was shifting in towards FOREVER GOLD, as a consequence of this, he steadied FOR SZESZE and shifted to the outside of EQUUS ZEPHYRUS. W C Marwing said when he interrupted the run of FOR SZESZE, it was then reluctant to find the line as strongly as he hoped and he felt in all the circumstances it was against the best interests of FOR SZESZE at this late stage to pull the whip as he considered the horse was doing its best when being ridden hands and heels. F Coetzee (HAPPY ECLIPSE) said tonight over the 1400 Metres and from the outside gate the intention was to ride the horse quietly, accordingly on jumping he took hold of HAPPY ECLIPSE and settled it in a position towards the rear. He said he started to improve his position a little sooner than he would normally because of tonight's going, the horse was making some ground, but in the run to the winning post he was of the view its run had ended. SPLENDID BO BO was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was reported that SPLENDID BO BO was bleeding from both nostrils.
