Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, POWER OF SUCCESS bounded in the air, this resulted in the horse losing ground at the start. After this, POWER OF SUCCESS was ridden forward, was unable to get in, was obliged to race wide throughout without any cover and over the concluding stages dropped out. ASIA STAR was slowly away. HENNESSY STAR left the gates awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of PRETTY BABY. Apprentice S K Sit (HONG KONG STAR) said his intention from an outside gate was to push forward and endeavour to lead. He said he was not able to get to the front, was caught wide and HONG KONG STAR dropped right out over the concluding stages. The performance of the horse was considered unacceptable and before HONG KONG STAR can race again, it will need to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. The Stewards allowed Mr A T Millard, trainer of STAR OF WAH YAN, an opportunity of explaining what on the face of it was an improved performance this evening. Mr Millard said STAR OF WAH YAN is getting old and is very difficult to work on the track because of its tendency to bolt. He said in recent runs the horse had been drawing bad gates and when forced to travel back, it was reluctant to race. He said tonight from a good draw, he instructed B Fayd'herbe to ride STAR OF WAH YAN along hard in the early stages and ensure it maintained a position towards the front. Mr Millard said because of the draw he did anticipate an improved run from STAR OF WAH YAN this evening. The explanations submitted were accepted. CAVIAR ONE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
