Racing Incident Report

When declarations were taken, Mr L Fownes, trainer of CERTAINTY, indicated that G Mossé would be riding CERTAINTY at 122 lbs, its allocated weight plus 1 lb overweight. However, this was not the case. G Mossé rode CERTAINTY at its allocated weight of 121 lbs. Whilst parading for the race, CHAMP DE UNION spread a plate, then had a nail puncture to its near front foot. Acting on the advice from the Veterinary Surgeon, CHAMP DE UNION was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. After arriving at the Start, the Veterinary Surgeon noted a small amount of blood in the mouth of CHARIOT OF STORM. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Approaching the 400 Metres, CROCKER shifted out and made contact with KENZAN, then over the concluding stages was inclined to lay in. Whilst the Stewards did not think the riding of G Mossé (CERTAINTY) in the run to the line affected the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however advise G Mossé he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. CROCKER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
