Racing Incident Report
PLATINUM EXPRESS left the gates somewhat awkwardly and threw its head about. On jumping, NEW CENTURY shifted in and bumped WINNING TOUCH which shifted ground and caused inconvenience to THISTLEJADE. About the 200 Metres, A Marcus (SINCERE AND FAITH) momentarily lost the use of his near side stirrup iron. After the 200 Metres, FORTUNE GLORY, which was making some ground, was steadied and shifted in to avoid ALL WIN. About the 50 Metres, ALLEZ ALLEZ was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of A Marcus. In the run to the winning post, SINCERE AND FAITH was inclined to shift out. When asked about the disappointing performance of NEW CENTURY, Apprentice M W Leung said his instructions had been to go forward in the early stages and race in a position at the front if possible. He said NEW CENTURY left the gates satisfactorily although shifting some ground, then he rode along in an endeavour to carry out the instructions. He said NEW CENTURY did not show the speed he expected it would and he settled down in a position towards the middle. He said he put NEW CENTURY under full pressure a long way out, the horse did not respond, was generally disappointing and in his opinion raced like a tired horse. D Whyte (THISTLEJADE) said the intention was to try and ride the horse somewhere about midfield. He went on to say however THISTLEJADE missed the start slightly and then just after this WINNING TOUCH, which had drawn outside him, was taken in abruptly and as a result of this the inside hind leg of WINNING TOUCH made contact with the lower part of the near side front leg of THISTLEJADE. D Whyte said because of this THISTLEJADE momentarily stumbled and the horse was then reluctant to stretch out. He did say however when he was able to get THISTLEJADE going, it had a reasonable trip through the race, but did not finish off as he expected it should and despite the incident at the start he thought the run of THISTLEJADE this evening was somewhat disappointing. THISTLEJADE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
