Racing Incident Report

EXCEL KID left the gates awkwardly and threw its head about. About the 1300 Metres, ETERNAL FUN threw its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CHINESESPORT GLORY. E Saint-Martin (ETERNAL FUN) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 800 Metres he shifted his mount out from behind CHINESESPORT GLORY when not sufficiently clear of SEREVI. As a consequence of this, SEREVI was crowded onto MENDOZA, lost running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. After considering all the circumstances of this matter and taking into account submissions put in relation to penalty by Jockey Saint-Martin, the Stewards decided it was appropriate for him to be suspended from riding in races until Monday 17 June 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of this suspension is to take immediate effect. In addition he was fined $60,000. SEREVI was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. D Whyte (SEREVI) said on pulling up the horse appeared to be short in front. SEREVI was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, trotted up and he was unable to find any significant abnormalities. However, an endoscopic examination was carried out and this revealed a significant amount of blood in the windpipe. Before SEREVI can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On pulling up, it was noted BLACK KNIGHT was making abnormal breathing noises, however, no significant abnormalities were detected. After the race, it was reported that NEW ASIANS had lost its off side front plate.
