Racing Incident Report
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that CIRCUIT KINGDOM was running a temperature. The horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards prior to Race 5. Before being presented in the Parade Ring, NAMJONG SPIRIT had a nail replaced in its near side front plate. After the race, it was noted NAMJONG SPIRIT had lost its near side front plate. On jumping, SHABU SHABU shifted in abruptly and bumped SOYUZ. MR HECTOR left the gates awkwardly and threw its head about. Approaching the 800 Metres, ON THE TEE, which was pulling, was being steadied to take up a position behind MR HECTOR and was bumped by INTERVENE which was racing tight on its outside. As a consequence of this, ON THE TEE was checked rather severely away from the heels of MR HECTOR. TURF LUCK, which was following ON THE TEE, shifted out abruptly, got close to the heels of INTERVENE, then shifted further to its outside. As a consequence of this, SOYUZ was crowded onto STRONGHEART and checked. In view of all the circumstances involved, the Stewards decided it would be inappropriate to take any action and accordingly the matter was closed. F Coetzee (MEDIC CORPS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that near the 800 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of SHABU SHABU. As a consequence of this, SHABU SHABU lost its rightful running, was checked rather severely to avoid the heels of MEDIC CORPS and whilst being checked became unbalanced and dipped. After taking into account all the circumstances involved in this incident, the demeanour and attitude of F Coetzee which was as usual exemplary, but also considering his race riding record this season which he acknowledged was not as good as it should be, he was fined $120,000. NAMJONG SPIRIT made the latter part of the Home Turn awkwardly. About the 200 Metres, FAST TRACK, which was closing the race off well, steadied and shifted in to avoid INTERVENE.
