Racing Incident Report
Just before the gates were opening, LUCKY SIX lunged forward and broke open its starting stall slightly prematurely. The Stewards did not consider that LUCKY SIX had gained an unfair advantage at the start and accordingly did not invoke the powers they have under Rule 12(20). FLORAL KING missed the start slightly, was then checked when crowded between GRAND DELIGHT which shifted out and MY HONOUR which on jumping shifted in slightly. MADE TO FIGURE was slowly away. Rounding the first turn, ASIA RISING got its head up, became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly from behind GREEN VACATION. As a consequence of this, inconvenience was caused to SUN SHINE RIVER and that horse was obliged to race wider. Y T Cheng (MY HONOUR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of GOLDEN YEARS. As a consequence of this, GOLDEN YEARS was carried across the running of LUCKY SIX, causing that horse to be checked. In the special circumstances of this case, it was decided Y T Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 17 October 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). It was decided the commencement of the suspension should be deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Sunday 6 October 2002. When questioned, G Schofield (VICTORY MARBLE) said before the race the trainer had told him the horse does possess enough speed to lead in this race, but as it was running over 1400 Metres, he was asked to try and ride the horse with cover, but if he was to lead, he was to try and do it comfortably. He said VICTORY MARBLE jumped well, but then as there were other horses crossing from the outside to go forward, to have led would have meant him having to ride VICTORY MARBLE along and bearing in mind the instructions he decided against this, took up a position behind the leaders where VICTORY MARBLE travelled comfortably, but then did not finish the race off as he hoped it would. The explanations submitted by G Schofield were accepted. C Williams (FLORAL KING) explained from a difficult gate he had been asked to try and ride the horse with cover and if possible in the Straight find runs towards the inside. He said almost immediately FLORAL KING commenced to hang out, in the Straight hung out badly and he was not able to ride it out in his normal fashion. The explanations submitted by C Williams were accepted. GRAND DELIGHT and GOLDEN YEARS were sent for sampling.
