Racing Incident Report

SMILEY WIN was slowly away. HENNESSY STAR jumped awkwardly and shifted out onto the heels of PERFECT SPORT. About the 800 Metres, CLASSIC SYMPHONY and CHEROKEE EXPRESS bumped. The Stewards allowed Mr T K Ng, trainer of PERFECT SPORT, and W M Lai an opportunity of explaining the horse's improved run. Mr Ng pointed out the obvious, that is the horse is a 1000 Metre Sha Tin specialist and is now 9 years old. He said after the horse's last run which was so bad, he was concerned with PERFECT SPORT and exercised it himself the day after the races. He said during this exercise PERFECT SPORT was so well in itself that he was almost dislodged, he therefore decide to enter PERFECT SPORT in a Class 5 event, down a grade from its pervious run and over the 1000 Metres. He said because of the horse's awful run last start, he hoped it would improve today, however, he was not confident and advised the owner accordingly. Mr Ng did add because PERFECT SPORT is getting quite old now, at its last run when covered up by other horses, it lost interest and would not compete. Mr Ng concluded by saying it is his intention now to restrict PERFECT SPORT to 1000 Metre races where it is hoped the horse can race with some degree of consistency. W M Lai was unable to offer any real assistance, however, did confirm the horse clearly runs well over the 1000 Metres. FORTUNE MAPLE, PERFECT SPORT and SMILEY WIN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that CHEROKEE EXPRESS was bleeding from both nostrils.
