Racing Incident Report
Before being saddled, it was noted SUPER COMBINATION had swelling around its right hock. The Veterinary Surgeon said this was not painful, the horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations it was decided SUPER COMBINATION was suitable to race. SUPER COMBINATION was again examined at the Start and passed fit to run. On leaving the Parade Ring, WATCHMAN kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, WATCHMAN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations he said the horse was suitable to race. FLASH MAC jumped awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and bumped TANAHMERAH. PERFECT SCORE jumped awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. As a consequence of this, TIMBER CITY was checked. The occurrence was accidental. Just after the start, PERFETTO was checked when crowded for room between SMART CHIEF and CLASSA VICTORY which was taken in by SUPER COMBINATION. Just after straightening, TANAHMERAH was steadied and shifted in to find running. About the 300 Metres, TIMBER CITY was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside FLASH MAC which was giving ground. For a short distance approaching the 200 Metres, SILVERBIRD was awkwardly placed between SUPER COMBINATION which was giving ground and LASER GLORY. K C Tsang (FAST TRACK) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when not clear of SMART CHIEF. This resulted in SMART CHIEF being crowded onto PERFETTO, losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled and being checked. K C Tsang was suspended from riding in races until Monday 16 December 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Wednesday 4 December 2002. In the run to the winning post, TANAHMERAH hung out rather badly, because of this proved difficult to ride out. When questioned, S K Sit (CLASSA VICTORY) said the trainer had asked him to try and ride the horse somewhere about 4th or 5th position and with cover. He did say the trainer had advised him CLASSA VICTORY is still learning to race and needs to be properly balanced. He said on jumping he had to check when crowded by SUPER COMBINATION which shifted in abruptly, as a consequence of this he got further back than intended and bearing in mind CLASSA VICTORY needs to be balanced, he did not ride the horse along immediately, but ensured it was travelling well although much further back than had been planned. He said CLASSA VICTORY travelled comfortably in the rearward position until straightening and although still a long way back he was anxious to ensure the horse was properly balanced before pulling the whip. He said ahead of him he could see he would be experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running. He said he was able to pull the whip after the 200 Metres, shifted CLASSA VICTORY out and the horse closed off quite strongly. The explanations submitted by S K Sit were accepted, however, he was told his riding at certain stages had come under notice. SMART CHIEF, PERFETTO and TANAHMERAH were sent for sampling.
