Racing Incident Report

GREAT KID left the gates awkwardly, threw its head about, shifted ground and brushed the hindquarters of CELESTIAL MAGIC. Near the winning post the first time, GREAT KID shifted out, causing some inconvenience to SPARKLE. About the 800 Metres, CELESTIAL MAGIC shifted out from behind SOLAR EMPIRE and momentarily caused some inconvenience to CHARMING STRIDE. Near the 500 Metres, ANIMATED PLAYTHING was checked when disappointed for running between PRECIOUS SWEETIE and REAL WINNER. No action was taken. Near the 400 Metres, DYNAMIC FUN and CHARMING STRIDE came together due mainly to DYNAMIC FUN shifting out. Just after straightening, HERO'S WAY was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between CHARMING STRIDE and DYNAMIC FUN. Throughout the race, GREAT KID hung out badly. When questioned, F Coetzee (FELICITY) said before the race he understood he had been asked by the trainer to take hold of the horse on jumping, shift across behind other runners and take up a position towards the rear. He said after being boxed FELICITY became fractious, got its head down and several times he called for assistance which was not forthcoming. He said because of the position of the horse's head when the gates opened, he had to pick its head up rather abruptly, because of this FELICITY did leave the gates very awkwardly, got back and he immediately shifted across to take up a position on the rail but at the rear. He said FELICITY then travelled satisfactorily during the race, he was able to make ground through runners along the back and the horse closed off quite strongly. Mr J Moore, trainer of FELICITY, said there was clearly some confusion in relation to the instructions he had given. He said his intention was for F Coetzee to leave the gates quietly, take up a position somewhere about the middle, but did anticipate the horse might have been wide. He provided these instructions as he was of the view there was some speed in the race and for FELICITY to go forward from its draw would have been difficult. Mr Moore did express disappointment with the way the horse had been ridden in the early stages, however, after hearing the explanations submitted, he was prepared to acknowledge there might have been some misunderstanding between he and the rider. The explanations submitted by F Coetzee on this occasion were recorded. CHARMING STRIDE, CELESTIAL MAGIC and HERO'S WAY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported ANIMATED PLAYTHING was bleeding from both nostrils
