Racing Incident Report
BLUE STITCH was withdrawn on 20.12.02 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPECIFIC SORCEROR (J Spencer). Before BLUE STITCH can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. From a difficult draw, EPIC EXPRESSION raced wide without any cover, then dropped right out in the Straight. Although EPIC EXPRESSION did race without any cover, the performance was considered unacceptable. After the race, EPIC EXPRESSION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said on scoping he observed there was a significant amount of mucus (phlegm) in the horse's trachea. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. E Saint-Martin (BEAMING RIVER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that about the 1400 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of CRYSTAL STEEL. As a consequence of this, CRYSTAL STEEL was obliged to shift inwards. This resulted in BLACK CARBINE and DOLBRIDGE being unnecessarily crowded for room and SPECIFIC SORCEROR being checked. After considering all the circumstances including the ready concession of E Saint-Martin to plead guilty, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for his licence to be suspended until Thursday 9 January 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin on Thursday 26 December 2002. E Saint-Martin made a formal request that the suspension take immediate effect. However, after considering the matter, it was decided this request could not be acceded to. About the 1000 Metres, RISING INDEX got its head on the side and shifted in away from EPIC EXPRESSION. As a consequence of this, CRYSTAL STEEL shifted in, causing BLACK CARBINE to be checked. Some inconvenience was caused to DOLBRIDGE. The occurrence was accidental. About the 400 Metres, STRATEGIC SELECT was disappointed for running between BLACK CARBINE and CRYSTAL STEEL. About the 200 Metres, REAL WINNER was steadied and shifted out when momentarily crowded by BEAMING RIVER. EPIC EXPRESSION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. COUNTRY BOY and ON THE TEE were sent for sampling.
