Racing Incident Report

Due to a misunderstanding, C Soumillon was declared as the rider of both PEPPERONI and VICTORY MARBLE. It was established C Soumillon had a firm commitment for PEPPERONI. Permission was given for F Coetzee to be substituted as the rider of VICTORY MARBLE. When the gates opened, CHAMP DE UNION reared and as a result lost considerable ground. On jumping, SPEED LORD was bumped by TRUST ME, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HELENE PILLAGING. SPEED LORD was then ridden hard to go forward. GENERAL KINGY and CONJURING were a little slow to begin and shortly after the start lost further ground when momentarily crowded for room between SAINTLY PARTNERS and HELENE ELEGANCE. Prior to the 200 Metres, SAINTLY PARTNERS was steadied when disappointed for running between HELENE ELEGANCE and RUN AND WIN which shifted in. After the 200 Metres, SAINTLY PARTNERS was shifted to the inside of HELENE ELEGANCE in an endeavour to find clear running, was not able to do so and because of this was not properly tested. Over the final 600 Metres, VICTORY MARBLE hung in. In the run to the line, TRUST ME was steadied when not able to obtain clear running between HELENE ELEGANCE and RUN AND WIN. G Mossé (HELENE PILLAGING) said he had ridden the horse in some of its work leading up to tonight's race, in particular he galloped HELENE PILLAGING on the turf track over 800 Metres last Saturday and in his opinion this work was "nice". He said after arriving in Hong Kong, HELENE PILLAGING had some feet trouble, however, this problem was now rectified. He said HELENE PILLAGING began well, he rode along hard in the early stages and it travelled satisfactorily, however, it made the turn after the 700 Metres a little awkwardly and then in the Straight did not close the race off. He concluded by saying in his opinion HELENE PILLAGING would be better suited at a distance further than tonight's 1000 Metres. The explanations submitted by G Mossé were accepted. HELENE PILLAGING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HELENE PILLAGING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. SPEED LORD, CONJURING and GENERAL KINGY were sent for sampling.
