Racing Incident Report

FANTASTICO was withdrawn on 31.1.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left front leg) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LUCKY VICTORIES (G Mossé). Before being allowed to race again, FANTASTICO will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the barrier, D Whyte expressed concern to the Veterinary Surgeon over the action of SOUTHERN LIGHT. After examining SOUTHERN LIGHT, the Veterinary Surgeon advised the horse was lame in the right fore leg. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SOUTHERN LIGHT. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. TUMBLER began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CHAMPION SPEED. PLEASANT SUCCESS was slow to begin and then in the early stages proved difficult to settle. From a gate towards the outside, DJEREED was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to the rail. Making the Home Turn, GREAT KID was inclined to lay out. In the early part of the Straight, THUNDER MAN was held up and unable to obtain clear running when behind TIMBER CITY and inside the heels of TUMBLER. To obtain clear running after the 300 Metres, THUNDER MAN was shifted to the inside of TIMBER CITY. At the 100 Metres, SPINNING CITY shifted in towards GREAT KID. In the Straight, SCENIC STAR hung in. A Suborics (CHAMPION SPEED) explained making the Home Turn when LUCKY VICTORIES improved to his outside, he became aware TUMBLER, which was racing to his inside, commenced to shift out. He said because of this he elected not to persevere for running between TUMBLER and LUCKY VICTORIES because he felt he would receive interference as it appeared TUMBLER would continue to shift out. He said as a result of this after straightening he steadied his mount and shifted it to the outside of LUCKY VICTORIES to obtain an uninterrupted run in the Home Straight. EAST OCEAN DRAGON and SPINNING CITY were sent for sampling.
