Racing Incident Report
TAKING THE LEAD began awkwardly. BRAVE KNIGHT was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, BRAVE KNIGHT, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER SPRINT. S Dye (SIR OCTAVIUS) explained he had been instructed because of the anticipated pace in the race not to bustle the horse in the early stages and to ensure it was properly balanced. He said as a result of those instructions SIR OCTAVIUS raced in a rearward position, commenced to improve after the 600 Metres and on the latter part of the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight he was held up and unable to obtain clear running between SUPER SPRINT and to the inside of BRAVE KNIGHT. He said to obtain running he had to allow BRAVE KNIGHT to continue forward to clear him, then shift to that horse's outside near the 200 Metres. He said when in the clear, SIR OCTAVIUS closed the race off strongly. THE GRAND ROOF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, THE GRAND ROOF, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed the horse had displaced its soft palate intermittently. The performance of THE GRAND ROOF was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY PARADISE and BRAVE KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
