Racing Incident Report
SMILEY WIN was slow to begin. PERFECT SPORT was a little slow to begin and then was checked when crowded for room between CLASSIC SYMPHONY and FORTUNE MAPLE which was taken out by HONG KONG STAR which on jumping threw its head about and shifted ground. Near the 1100 Metres, HONG KONG STAR was steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC SYMPHONY. After the 1000 Metres, VICTORY MASTER was steadied away from the heels of TOP OF THE CROWN which steadied in front. Also after the 1000 Metres, MUNDAHISH got its head on the side, shifted out and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CRAIG'S HA HA. On straightening, HONG KONG STAR was steadied when disappointed for running between MUNDAHISH which was giving ground and SMILEY WIN which shifted out. Throughout the race, PRETTY PRETTY hung out and was obliged to race wide without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered if BLAZING BOB had had an unfair start. The official videos of the start was reviewed. B Prebble, the rider of BLAZING BOB, was interviewed. It was established that after the start was effected, BLAZING BOB, which had been standing properly, reared, hit its head on the top bar of its stall and became badly unbalanced, causing B Prebble to be dislodged. As BLAZING BOB was standing correctly when the start was effected, the Stewards deemed BLAZING BOB to have had a fair start and was therefore declared a runner. B Prebble did not sustain an injury as a result of his fall. After dislodging B Prebble, BLAZING BOB became disorientated and ran through the inside running rail. Subsequently the horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse had sustained possible concussion, facial fractures and multiple abrasions to the legs. Before being allowed to race again, BLAZING BOB will be required to pass an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. S Dye (MUNDAHISH) explained he had been instructed to take a trail on the horse which is consistent with the manner he had been instructed to ride it at its most recent start when it won over the course and distance on 19 April 2003. He said on that occasion the pace of the race was slow and he therefore elected to lead and was able to do so at a tempo to suit himself. He said today MUNDAHISH appeared "proppy" in its action throughout and because of this did not respond to his riding. He added MUNDAHISH dipped quite noticeably at about the 200 Metres and because the horse was well beaten, he therefore did not ride it out to the line. MUNDAHISH was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, MUNDAHISH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. The performance of MUNDAHISH was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, it will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOP OF THE CROWN and VICTORY MASTER were sent for sampling. After the race, R Fradd reported VICTORY MASTER was not striding out freely. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was slightly lame in the left fore leg and will be re-examined tomorrow.
