Racing Incident Report

JUSTINIAN was slow to begin. LUCKY LUCKY began awkwardly and got its head up, and for some distance was close to the heels of HIGHLIGHT. Near the 800 Metres, JUSTINIAN commenced to over-race and shifted out. This caused HIGHLIGHT to be carried wider. JUSTINIAN continued to over-race with HIGHLIGHT racing to its outside and went forward. Near the 600 Metres, JUSTINIAN, which was continuing to prove difficult to ride, was checked when crowded between HIGHLIGHT and ME AND YOU (D Whyte) which shifted to the outside of SUPER FORCE. While S K Sit, the rider of JUSTINIAN, attributed the interference mainly to his own horse, the Stewards considered it appropriate to severely reprimand D Whyte and advise him to exercise care when shifting ground. On straightening, TRULY CONTENT shifted out abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of LASER GLORY. This caused inconvenience to ROUND THE WORLD and ME AND YOU. At the 400 Metres, MEMBERS GLORY bumped the running rail. Throughout the race, ANIMATED PLAYTHING was obliged to race wide and without cover. G Schofield (LASER GLORY) explained he had discussed where the horse should be ridden with Mr P F Yiu, the horse's trainer, prior to the race. He said it was decided that he should endeavour to ride LASER GLORY behind the leader which they anticipated to be BUDDIES POWER. He said this decision was made because of the horse's most recent start which was its first start over the distance. LASER GLORY led, had a horse racing to its outside, proved difficult to settle and therefore failed to finish the race off. The explanations submitted by G Schofield were accepted. BUDDIES POWER and MEMBERS GLORY were sent for sampling.
