Racing Incident Report

FLAMENCO STAR was withdrawn on 20.5.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHINESESPORT GLORY (B Prebble). After arriving at the Start, it was noted WIN HUNTER had its tongue over the bit. This was re-positioned prior to the horse being loaded. BOXING DAY and PROFIT TREASURE were slow to begin. On jumping, GORGEOUS YEARS was crowded for room between UTMOST EASY and CHARMING STRIDE which got its head on the side and shifted out. After the 900 Metres, BOXING DAY commenced to over-race and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAT CHOY TREASURE. Near the 500 Metres, PROFIT TREASURE and INDY'S GEM were steadied when crowded for room between BOXING DAY and BELLAGIO which initially shifted to the outside of WINNING SUNSHINE and then was carried out further when that horse shifted to the outside of GOOD BOY. On straightening, PROFIT TREASURE was momentarily steadied when close to the heels of BELLAGIO. After straightening, THISTLEJADE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of CHINESESPORT GLORY which was giving ground. GORGEOUS YEARS and CHINESESPORT GLORY were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GORGEOUS YEARS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GORGEOUS YEARS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of CHINESESPORT GLORY following the race did not show any significant findings. WIN HUNTER, SILVER JET and WINNING SUNSHINE were sent for sampling. After the race, WIN HUNTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being permitted to race again, WIN HUNTER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, it was noted by the Veterinary Surgeon that SILVER JET was distressed. Before being allowed to race again, SILVER JET will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 23 May 2003) :
After the race, GORGEOUS YEARS was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. GORGEOUS YEARS was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes yesterday and was at this time noted to be lame in the right front leg.
As previously advised, GORGEOUS YEARS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination before racing again.
