Racing Incident Report
FULL TACK began awkwardly, got its head up, then in the Straight tailed out. The performance of FULL TACK was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FULL TACK will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the 600 Metres, LIGHTING THE WORLD was steadied when awkwardly placed between COSMO STAR which shifted out slightly and PEPPERONI. After the 200 Metres, LIGHTING THE WORLD was checked when disappointed for running between COSMO STAR and FOOD LOVER, both of which shifted ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. F Coetzee (FAST TRACK) explained he had ridden the horse in a recent trial and the horse had shown good pace to race in a forward position throughout. He said today he had been instructed to make use of the horse's early speed and ride it forward from the start in an endeavour to obtain a position behind the leaders. He said he rode in accordance with those instructions, however, approaching the first turn he was racing in a position four wide, he therefore elected to make more use of FAST TRACK and crossed to the fence in the lead. The explanations submitted by F Coetzee were accepted. W C Marwing (GREAT COMMANDER) said he had not ridden the horse in the lead up to today's race other than a piece of slow work last Friday. He said during the parade and behind the barriers GREAT COMMANDER was sweating up badly and appeared "well above" itself. He said the horse began well, he obtained a nice position behind the lead, however, at the 600 Metres when racing greenly became unbalanced between SPIRITUAL KING and FELICITY. He said in the Straight GREAT COMMANDER did not respond to his riding and only kept on one-paced. He said he had to momentarily steady away from the heels of SPIRITUAL KING which shifted out near the 200 Metres, but this was of little significance. He said after the race GREAT COMMANDER was blowing hard. GREAT COMMANDER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of GREAT COMMANDER following the race did not show any significant findings. Apprentice M W Leung (PRECIOUS SWEETIE) explained the horse travelled satisfactorily until entering the Home Straight, however, shortly afterwards appeared to be tied up in its action, therefore he did not ride it out to the line as he normally would. PRECIOUS SWEETIE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, PRECIOUS SWEETIE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. FELICITY and FAST TRACK were sent for sampling.
