Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, FREE WAY broke through the front gates of its stall, causing Y T Cheng to be dislodged. The horse then completed the course riderless. Acting on veterinary advice that FREE WAY was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of that horse. Before being permitted to race again, FREE WAY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping, LUCKY VICTORIES initially shifted out and bumped MONEY EXPRESS, then shifted in and bumped LUCKY DICE. Also on jumping, FORTUNE BUILDER got its head up, then shortly afterwards clipped the heels of ELETTARIN after being carried in by SUNDAY DELIGHT which shifted in abruptly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. PREMIER SPEED stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. For some distance approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, LUCKY DICE proved difficult to settle. C Williams (LUCKY DICE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 200 Metres he shifted his mount to the outside of CHING HOI BOY when not clear of MONEY EXPRESS, causing that horse to be severely hampered [Rule 100(1)]. C Williams' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 12 October 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Wednesday 1 October 2003. D Dunn (TIMBER CITY) explained shortly after the start his saddle shifted back slightly, however, this was of little concern to him. He said after straightening he immediately commenced to ride TIMBER CITY along and his saddle shifted back further. Whilst the shift was not of significance, when he commenced to ride TIMBER CITY along with the whip near the 300 Metres, the horse appeared to lose its action and became unbalanced. He said he again commenced to ride TIMBER CITY along after the 200 Metres and the horse again appeared to be awkward in its action, therefore he did not ride it out to the line as he normally would. TIMBER CITY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of TIMBER CITY after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD HEART and SHINING DRAGON were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported PREMIER SPEED was making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse had previously been reported as a "roarer".
